Tired of walking? Wishing you had your bike with you downtown? Don’t want to pedal up hills? Fear not. Soo Cycles is here for you with an array of electronic-bicycles available for rent.
Located in the heart of Downtown Sault Ste. Marie across the street from the Soo Locks Park entrance on West Portage Avenue, Soo Cycles is giving you another means of transportation during the summer.
Rentals are available in a trio of time based tiers: $10 for one hour, $40 for half of a day and $80 for a full day. Special prices are available if you bring your “squad” (you and two other friends) to ride with you.
“They’re effortless to drive,” says owner Sandy Gervais, pointing out that they’re ideal for people over 55 years of age. “If you don’t want to pedal, you can just use the throttle.”
And that throttle can take you around the city in a zip. The e-bikes are capable of going 20 m.p.h. when drivers rev up their battery-powered motors, or they can be pedaled like a traditional bicycle.
Once a rider has their bike, the sky (well, the time they rented it for) is the limit. Gervais says one of the best rides people can make is along the St. Marys River. Heading east from her location along Portage, down Water Street and back on to Portage can make for a scenic tour all the way to Rotary Park. Check out other routes to take the bikes along.
Renters must be 16 and over to checkout a bike. For the best ride quality possible Gervais recommends gauging the bike’s battery life, trying the breaks and checking the tires’ air pressure before departing.
Soo Cycles will be open throughout the day during the summer as long as the weather cooperates. Gervais aims to be downtown between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., but is available to be down there in next to no time if someone calls Soo Cycles’ phone numberat (906) 379-8657.
