Fireworks are always an exciting spectacle, but there’s nothing worse than ending up miles (exaggeration) away from the action. The great thing about Sault Ste. Marie is you have two chances to get the perfect seat. Sault, Ontario celebrates Canada Day, July 1, with a rousing round of fireworks and then on Independence Day, July 4th, you can watch as Sault, Michigan shoots off a stunning array of fireworks.
Brady Park is a very popular place July 1st & 4th. This location is almost directly in front of where the fireworks are shot from on the St. Marys River making it a prime viewing location. The park isn’t large so get there early, but at the top of the hill is the City Hall lawn with lots of viewing space. Bring your blankets and chairs for this location and stake out your space. City Hall is located at 225 E Portage Ave east of the Soo Locks.
George Kemp Marina public area has limited space, but it’ well worth getting there early to stake out a spot. Directly on the water (the Marina’s public area) is one of my favorite spots. The marina is located at 485 Water Street next to the retired freighter Museum Ship Valley Camp.
Ride in style and view the fireworks from the St. Marys River on a Soo Locks Boat Tours special fireworks cruise both July 1st & 4th. This 1.5-hour ride doesn’t go through the Soo Locks but it does give you one of the best views of the fireworks.
210 feet in the air is the only way to watch the fireworks! Forget craning your neck, the Tower of History is eye level with the evenings festive display. Get there when the Tower opens at 9pm for this special July 4th standing room only event located at 326 E. Portage Avenue!
No matter where you plan to watch the fireworks from don’t forget to catch the 7pm parade through downtown Sault Ste. Marie! After the parade, there are numerous options to kill a little time before the fireworks. You could grab an ice cream cone and stroll Portage Avenue or maybe an adult beverage at one of the fine drinking establishments in the downtown is more your style. No matter how you spend your time you should plan on spending it in Sault Ste. Marie.
