Space Rocks! Family Launch Day
April 25 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
| FreeSomething exciting is happening in Sault Ste. Marie. The space industry is growing in Michigan and the kids growing up here right now could be the engineers, scientists, and builders who help shape it. It starts with curiosity. And it starts here.
WHAT IS SPACE ROCKS?
Space Rocks! Family Launch Day is a FREE, hands-on morning of space exploration hosted at the Northern Sand & Gravel Warehouse. Whether your child is 5 or 15, a future engineer or just space-curious, there’s something here that will blow their mind.
This isn’t a lecture. This is hands-on, real, and genuinely exciting.
WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE:
Rockets! — Kids of all ages get to experiment with rockets and watch them fly. And don’t miss the Grand Finale Launch at 12:45pm!
Command & Control Satellites — Live — Using simulation software, you’ll be able to send commands and watch vehicle telemetry on high-fidelity Digital Twins of spacecraft, in real time.
Receive Live Weather Images from Space — Using a real UHF/VHF antenna, we’ll pull down actual NOAA weather satellite images as they’re being transmitted. Real data. From space. Live.
How Do You Build on the Moon? — See a demonstration of the methods scientists are exploring to construct things on the lunar surface. It’s more fascinating than you’d think.
Grand Finale Rocket Launch at 12:45 PM — The big one. Don’t be late!

WHY THIS MATTERS:
The U.P. has always been a place where hardworking people build things that matter. Space is the next frontier and we don’t want our kids to have to leave home to be part of it.
Smart kids who grow up inspired stay local. They build careers here. They raise families here. They build the future here.
Space Rocks! is one morning. But it might be the morning that changes everything for your kid.
