On Saturday, May 13, at 2 p.m., Bayliss Public Library in Sault Ste. Marie is hosting the first induction ceremony for the Upper Peninsula Literary Hall of Fame, to honor the great writers from the history of the U.P. Presenters for the event include poet April Lindala, of NMU’s Center for Native American Studies, from Marquette; writer and Armenian/Arabic translator Alex Vartan Gubbins, from Ishpeming; and Pulitzer-Prize-winning poet Diane Seuss, who will be inducting the first four writers selected for the U.P. Literary Hall of Fame with the help of nominations from Bayliss Public Library in Sault Ste. Marie, Island Bookstore in Mackinac Island, Munising Public Library in Munising, and event organizer Ron Riekki from Negaunee and Palmer. The event is free to the public. Two of the four newly inducted writers include Sue Harrison (author of the bestselling Mother Earth Father Sky), of Pickford, and Sally Brunk (Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians poet), of L’Anse.
