The women’s hockey community is coming together for a weekend honoring Katie Robinson. The second annual Katie Robinson Memorial Showcase is set to take place February 10 – 12, 2023 at Pullar Stadium in Sault Ste. Marie. This weekend will allow up to 24 teams from across the Midwest and Ontario to come together to celebrate Katie’s life by playing her favorite sport.

The weekend will be highlighted by a tilt between the Lake Superior State University Lady Lakers and the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers Saturday evening at 7:30. All participants in the showcase will be on hand for puck drop and a ceremonial picture. Admission into the game is by donation of items intended for the Diane Peppler Resource Center.

Throughout the weekend up to two dozen teams will be competing across four age brackets (19U, 16U, 14U, and 12U) with four guaranteed games for each team. Registration is currently open for teams to sign up and compete in the showcase. Interested teams are asked to contact the Kalkaska Area Hockey Association by emailing kalkaskahockey.org.

The inaugural Katie Robinson Memorial Showcase was held in February 2022 in Sault Ste. Marie following the tragic passing of the 20-year-old hockey player in 2021. The Kalkaska K-Star Women’s Hockey Team partnered with LSSU’s Women’s Hockey Club to hold the first showcase. Katie played for Soo Michigan Hockey, Sault Female Jr. Greyhounds/Wildcats, and Meijer Hockey out of Lansing. She had intentions of playing for Lake State’s Women’s team.

Individuals and hockey teams interested in volunteering to help ensure the Katie Robinson Memorial Showcase is a success are asked to contact Nancy Robinson at 906-748-1566 or email katierobinsonshowcase@gmail.com.

More information will be added as we get closer to the date of the showcase.
