Summertime is cruising time, at least it is for over 200 drivers who’ll be taking their classic cars and trucks across the state as a part of the Back to the Bricks Promo Tour. This year, Sault Ste. Marie will serve as the final stop for the Promo Tour.

Tuesday, June 7 will see Portage Avenue (between Ashmun Street and Magazine Street) converted into a showcase of vintage vehicles from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. that is free and open to the public and feature music and. It’ll be a great evening to explore downtown Sault Ste. Marie’s shops and restaurants. There will be a temporary street closure for traffic between 1 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

“The Back to the Bricks Promo Tour is a way for us to go around the state and tell people about the big event in August,” said event coordinator Linda Moore prior to the 2019 event in the Soo. “It takes place over two weeks in Flint.”

Moore found drivers liked locations along the water and traveling north of the Mackinac Bridge. The Sault Ste. Marie Convention & Visitors Bureau was quick to partner with the traveling car show to get them to select the Soo for their 2019 tour. The Soo was later selected to host the 2022 promo tour.

The Back to the Bricks Promo Tour brings a mix of classic and luxury automobiles. Some drivers opt for comfort and drive quality over style due to the touring nature of the event, but there are guaranteed to be quite a few head turning cars participating.

Drivers range from as close as right here in Sault Ste. Marie to as far away as Texas. Each car averages about a passenger too with somewhere between 400-500 total people visiting the area.

Cars will arrive in the Soo on Monday, June 6. This will be a free day for the Promo Tour. Participants will be able to explore the area and its attractions. It also allows participants to promote the tour to local clubs and car enthusiasts outside of the Flint area, hence the “Promo Tour” name.

This year will mark the 12th anniversary of the Back to the Bricks Promo Tour. Its original run included 25 cars. For more information on how to get involved with the program visit https://backtothebricks.org
