For the fourth time a Champion of the Great Lakes will be crowned. Freighter Frenzy is set to make its return Monday, March 13. In all, 32 freighters will be paired off in brackets with votes being cast by you to determine which of these bulk carriers will carry the banner of champion. This year we’ll be giving our audience the chance to fill out their own bracket. Let’s see if anyone can come up with a perfect bracket! You can fill in your bracket here. The Sault Ste. Marie CVB’s fourth annual Freighter Frenzy is a celebration of all things Great Lakes shipping and serves as a prelude of sorts before the Soo Locks open on March 25. The opening Round of 32 will be held on Twitter. There will be a 24-hour time limit to vote for your favorite freighter. Once we’re out of the first round, voting will then take place on Twitter with select matches taking place in our Instagram stories. The championship round will be on Twitter and on Instagram. Each Twitter vote will be worth two points and each Insta vote will be worth one during the final round.

The first two years of tournament action saw the Wilfred Sykes take the crown. Last year the Arthur M. Anderson won her first Freighter Frenzy tournament. The Anderson fended off a challenge from the Queen of the Lakes, the Paul R. Tregurtha. The final tally was 87-32 in favor of the Anderson.

Will the Anderson retain her thrown? Will the Sykes lay claim to a dynasty? Will a new challenger win the title of Champion of the Great Lakes? It’s up to you to decide.
