Sault Ste. Marie is proud to share a piece of our community with the entire state this holiday season! Join us for a special Harvest Celebration as we send off the official 39th State of Michigan Christmas Tree, a 68-foot spruce grown right here in the Soo.

The celebration will feature live performances by the Soo High School Band, the Soo High Poms Team, and the Lake Superior State University Band!

This year’s tree was generously donated by Linda Reid, in honor of her grandparents, Lawrence and Nettie Richey. After the local celebration, the tree will make its journey to Lansing on November 1, where it will be placed on the Capitol lawn with the help of local Boy Scout troops and The HI-Ball Company of Lansing.

Once positioned, the City of Lansing Forestry Team will prepare the tree for decoration and lighting, designed by the Michigan Capitol Commission and the Lansing Board of Water & Light. The official tree lighting will take place during Silver Bells in the City on November 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Let’s come together to celebrate this proud moment for our community — a tree from the Soo, for all of Michigan!
