Sault Ste. Marie is a great place for all families to visit. Kids of all ages will love seeing how much fun the Soo has to offer. We have compiled a list of things that you and your family should check out, especially if you have some little ones tagging along for the trip.
Kids Fishing Pond
Take your kids and family on a fishing excursion. Head over to the Rotary Park area. In the pond there will be lots of fish specifically put there for kids to fish! Visit the Parks
There are lots of options when it comes to parks here in Sault Ste. Maire. Rotary Park has a great view of ships passing by. There is a small jungle gym for the kids to play on and a place to launch your kayaks into the river if you’re feeling up to it!
The next park is Sherman Park. It has a great beach to play at, grills to cook on and a nice jungle gym for the kids to play on. There is also a basketball court and beach volleyball. It is fun for the whole family all day! It’s also a great spot to watch freighters pass by or to catch sunsets.
Finally for parks we have Project Playground. If you are looking to get some energy out of your kids for a while on your trip to the Soo, Project Playground is great! It is a giant jungle gym and playground equipment that will keep your kids entertained until their heart’s content.
See the Attractions
The attractions in Sault Ste. Marie make for a great adventure for the whole family. Whether you do one or all of them, the family will enjoy the day! The first attraction is the Soo Locks Boat Tours. These tours – put on by the Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours and Original Soo Locks Boat Tours run about 90 minutes and are a narrated boat ride that takes you through the Soo Locks. Speaking of the Soo Locks, visiting the Soo Locks Park is a must do for everyone on the family!
Another attraction that the whole family will love is the Tower Of History. This 210-foot tower will give you a wonderful view Sault Ste. Marie while teaching history as well. Don’t worry, there is an elevator that will take you to the top! The River of History Museum compliments the Tower and is located in downtown Sault Ste. Marie. This self-guided museum will walk you from the earliest days the Sault Ste. Marie area was settled by indigenous people all the way to modern day.
Last, but not least, you will want to take your family to the Museum Ship Valley Camp. This decommissioned Great Lakes freighter will show you what it is really like to work on a ship on the great lakes. There are also lots of historical exhibits that can pique anyone’s interest.
