Hip hip hooray! Its almost National Cheeseburger Day! In honor of the holiday on Sunday, September 18th, we have compiled a list of some of the beefiest and cheesiest burger joints in Sault Ste. Marie.
Wicked Sister
I know it seems like a dream, but this real! It is the one and only Dirty Uncle burger from the Wicked Sister. Located right downtown on Ashmun Street, the Wicked Sister serves up a wickedly awesome burger! We suggest beginning your Cheeseburger Day pilgrimage with this bovine behemoth!
Frank’s Place
Next one on the list comes from the beloved Frank’s Place on Portage Avenue. One of the many family owned and operated Soo staples, Frank’s Place has been serving up cheeseburgers and more delicious fare for 30 years and boasts some of the Soo’s most loyal patrons.
Clyde’s Big C Burger
Our journey to culinary burger bliss leads us seven minutes from downtown Sault Ste. Marie to Clyde’s Drive-In. Clyde’s is home to the Big C, a 3/4 lb monster of a cheeseburger. As you enjoy your belly’s new bestie, take in the sights and sounds of the St. Marys River and Sugar Island Ferry.
West Pier double cheeseburger
The Soo is home to one of the most epic controversies of our time, which is the Clyde’s vs West Pier rivalry! Directly across town, you will find yourself again on the banks of the St. Marys River, but this time West Pier Drive-In is your destination.
West Pier is home to their undeniable double cheeseburger. The juicy goodness and sheer size of this prime example of a cheeseburger is enough to make you drive over mountains and through valleys, just to experience a full pound of heaven.
Moloney’s Sriracha Bourbon burger
Moloney’s Alley is no stranger to good food, and their cheeseburger game is no exception. The crowd-pleaser is the Siracha Bourbon burger. Pair that with one of the 20 beers on tap and you are in for one of the best meals of your life!
The Palace’s burger
One of the most underrated offerings in the Soo has to be the Palace Restaurant & Saloon’s cheeseburger. A monument to the classic American cheeseburger, The Palace has perfected the art of a perfectly stacked masterpiece.
The Zorba’s burger at the Alpha Bar and Zorba’s Greek Restaurant
Last, but not least (especially not last in the Greek alphabet) is the Alpha Bar/Zorba’s Greek Restaurant’s burger. Available in a few different varieties, but especially excellent with banana peppers, this 1/3lb burger is one of the best-kept secrets in Sault Ste. Marie.
