Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan knows how to have a good time when the temperature drops to freezing! Here are three winter events you should visit Sault Ste. Marie to experience first hand.
1. Downtown Winter Ice Festival is two days of ice carvings and free fun for everyone! The last Friday and Saturday of January (26-27, 2018) watch as professionals use chainsaws, chisels, and blowtorches to sculpt over 40 blocks of ice into works of art.
Saturday night will close out the event with ICE WARS at 6:00 pm! Two carvers go head to head creating sculptures the crowd cheers out.
2. International 500 Snowmobile Race is a full day of professional snowmobile racers careening at speeds of over 100 miles an hour around an ICE oval track held the first Saturday in February. This year it’s February 3, 2018.

3. Downtown Outhouse Races are just as crazy as they sound! Watch Saturday, February 17 as racers push their homemade outhouse to victory. There are a few stipulations: the five-person team must have a toilet seat, wiping material, and a team name.
