I’m about to make a big statement here: the right summer event can transport you to a whole new world.

With a few pictures and a few words, I’m going to tell you how…

  • a traditional PowWow invites you to the world of Native American art, dance, and tradition
  • a basketball tournament gives you a peek into the world of a star athelete
  • a summer festival transports you to a world of tents, muskets, candle-making and more
  • a street fair reminds you of the world you grew up in – simple, family-oriented, and fun
  • a convention can quite honestly deliver an other-worldy experience

Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians Pow Wow & Summer Gathering July 8-10 2016

To see and hear centuries of tradition shared and celebrated through dance, song, food, and family is a special experience. Native Americans have a unique relationship with Mother Earth and invite the public to come learn more about their culture, their language and their lives both past and present at this annual event.

Gus Macker 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament July 15-17, 2016

Both kids and adults love the annual Gus Macker 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, where you don’t have to be a well-seasoned athlete to take a star turn on the dream court. Teams of all ages compete for the chance to play on this very special court, which features its own play-by-play and color commentators. No matter which court you play on, plan to be greeted by cheering crowds, fierce competition and possibly a paparazzi or two. What could be more star-like than that? Register your team until July 5.

Rendezvous in the Sault July 30 & 31, 2016

The smell of the campfire, the sounds of the cannon, and the authentic actions of more than 100 historic reenactors take you to another time and another place. You’re no longer on Water Street on the grounds of City Hall – you are walking amid an 18th century encampment populated by civilian homes, military artifacts, and a good measure of music and merriment.

Downtown Days August 5-6, 2016

The simple pleasures are on display at this summer street fair. An appreciative pony gets a scratch behind the ears. A gaggle of kids create their own art project. A local dance troupe performs for proud pappas and mammas. Downtown Days feels like taking a step back in time, which is what every busy family needs in today’s over-hyped, high-tech, fast-paced world. 90’s rock legend Firehouse will be at Moloney’s Alley to close out the weekends festivities! 7th Annual Michigan Paranormal Convention August 26-27, 2016

When I said a whole new world, I didn’t specify in what world you would find yourself, but thanks to a very full schedule of experts on everything from ghost hunting, modern-day witchcraft, vampires and bigfoot, it’s going to be an interesting one! This annual convention attracts major names including Grant Wilson from SyFy’s Ghost Hunters, Amy Allan of the Travel Channel’s hit show Dead Files, and other paranormal stars.
