What’s better than Halloween as a child? TWO Halloweens! In Sault Ste. Marie Michigan children get to reap the harvest of Downtown Trick-or-Treating the Friday before Halloween, October 28 from 5-7pm, and then all of the Soo participates in October 31 door to door trick or treating.

This festive night brings the families out for more than just candy: hayrides, haunted theater, costume contest, zombie walk, and scary movies round out the night.

Downtown Trick-or-Treating covers six city blocks, and the best way to get around is the free tractor hayride provided by the Downtown Development Authority. Walk from one end to the other, and then hop the hayride back to your car.

The historic Soo Theater transforms into a ghoulish haunted theater by local participants and you can partake in the creepy fun for $3 per person. Proceeds go to The Soo Theater Project. Stick around after the haunted house for a creepy movie for $4 per person.

After the bags are filled with candy walk your little ghosts, goblins, and princesses to Avery Square Center at the corner of Ashmun and Spruce for a costume contest at 7pm. This event and prizes are provided by the senior citizen’s residents of Avery Square.

Midnight may be the witching hour, but 7pm is the Zombie Hour in Sault Ste. Marie! The Zombie Walk for Autism participants gather at the corner of Ashmun & Portage, and with their $5 donation get a commemorative pin plus the opportunity to participate in the hoard of zombies. As an unsuspecting bystander, this can be a startling sight! After the zombie hoard has slowly shuffled and moaned their way up Ashmun Street, the Soo Theater treats the gruesome group to a showing of the Syfy TV hit “Zoombies” !

After a long week at the office, what better way to wrap up the week than to take your eager Trick-or-Treater for a Halloween practice run through Downtown Sault Ste. Marie. Make a full evening out of it with dinner at one of the many restaurants. You can even tuck the kids into bed to join the 21 and over zombies at the 313 Bar for an after party.
